Li Zeng

ArtCenter
2021

Li Zeng is a Los Angeles-based artist and was born and raised in China’s Central Yellow River Valley. Her work speculates on the fragility of living conditions by exposing calamity and paradoxes. Utilizing multi-medium installation within a diverse and democratic range of materials, her languages oscillate between wonder and potential harm as direct strokes of the hardship of living. Though Zeng’s practice ranges between sculpture, drawing, performance, and sound, her work is rooted in her conversation with literature and theater. As she inserts the elements of writing in spaces either through spoken words or poetic constructions, the notion of trauma and the precarity of life inflects every gesture.
